Two Ways to Style a Floppy Round Top Hat

by Sophie Langlois

At the beginning of this season, I always wanted to find a big red floppy hat to wear. I had seen them everywhere from the streets to magazines and fell in love with the new fall/ winter trend but I had trouble finding the right hat for my face shape. After much searching, I found the perfect one from Pinky Yotto. I am IN LOVE with this hat. It is so stylish and very free people "festival girl" esc. I've been wearing this hat with almost everything, but here are just two examples of outfits that I put together.

Outfit #1: Fur and Denim

I wore this outfit last Saturday for a play and lunch in the city. I loved this outfit because it was comfortable, casual but also very chic and stylish, which I loved especially because I was out walking through the streets of the Fashion District. For my pants, I wore my black leather leggings by TAG from Bloomingdales. These leggings are so cool and edgy, especially with the addition of the faux leather from the knee down. Then I wore my long denim button down from Marc by Marc Jacobs. I love how this button down has more of an oversized mens shirt fit to it. It is great to wear with leggings because it is a little bit longer in the back so it covers your butt. Over the denim shirt I wore my black fur vest by Noriko from Bloomingdales. I think that the contrast with the fur and denim is a great look and something that I for sure want to wear more often. For my shoes I wore a pair of cheetah print loafers from J. Crew and for jewelry I wore a long gold chain with an "S" charm at the bottom and my hand of Fatima gold necklace. I think that the layering of the long and short necklaces looks so pretty and effortless. Then I threw on my floppy burgundy hat from Pinky Yotto and my classic hunter green Barbour jacket. I love the look of the cheetah print from the shoes and the burgundy of the hat together. I think that this look is very classic fall and something that I would see in a free people magazine. Defiantly something that I am going to be wearing again.

Outfit #2: Neutrals and Burgundy

For my second outfit, I kept the top and bottom a little bit more neutral and classic and then added bold accessories. For my jeans, I had on a pair of distressed, dark wash jeans from Abercrombie and Fitch paired with my burgundy loafers from Nordstroms. Then on top I wore a white long sleeved shirt from Splendid and then over that I put on a light grey and cream printer poncho that I picked up while I was in Mexico City. I love love love the fall poncho trend so much and was so happy when I found a few in Mexico. They are just so cozy and cute I have to buy them all!! Then, I added my statement pieces of the look: my Loeffler Randall junior animal printed work tote and, once again, my burgundy floppy hat from Pinky Yotto. I love how this whole look ties together when I add the hat. I think that with the red from the hat and shoes and the print from the bag it really brings in the whole look.

For my night Saturday night out on the town, I channeled my inner gossip girl with some bold black and white prints. The main piece of this outfit was my black and white dress by Parker. I love the color and pattern of this dress, it is so busy yet not overwhelming and reminds me a lot of the city for some odd reason! Parker dresses are so well made, I always know that I am getting great quality no matter what. What I love most about this dress is that because it is so bold there is no need to add much to it so you can just throw it on and walk out the door as easy as that! For my shoes I wore a pair of black wedges by B.P from Nordstroms. The cut outs in these shoes are a great addition to the shoe and makes them look like more than just your average wedge. Also, I think that these shoes go perfectly with the dress because they are subtle and simple but also very edgy and chic. For accessories, I wore my white Hermes cuff, pearl earrings and a black and plumb diamond rock necklace. I think that this necklace really ties in the look because it adds a little bit of sparkle to the already daring dress. All in all, this outfit was perfect for a nice Saturday night out, I think Serena Van Der Woodsen would have been proud!!

Happy Saturday :)

Today I am going to show you how to achieve two great looks, one day and one night, without having to change to much about them! My three staples in the outfits are my Hudson Nico Mid Rise Skinnies in a dark wash, my J. Crew sparkly statement necklace and my Loeffler Randall new junior work tote. I love all three of these articles together, especially the bag and the necklace because the two are such bold and sophisticated pieces yet they work so well together.

Day Look:

whether you are going out to lunch, to a museum or even to a friend house, this outfit is perfect! It is sophisticated and put together but also cute and preppy. Starting from my shoes, I wore a pair of black motorcycle boots with my Hudson Nico Mid Rise Skinnies in a dark wash. Then on the top I wore a navy tank top blouse that had some cute layering details on the top. Over that I wore a white, oversized button up sweater from LF. Then I topped off the outfit with my statement necklace from J Crew and my Loeffler Randall bag. I love the contrast between such a preppy shirt and necklace with such a bold printed bag! I think that this look is very well put together and unique.

Now for the night look I wanted to glam it up a bit. Instead of the black motorcycle boots, I wore a pair of wedged Hoss boots. I absolutely love these boots because they are so easy to walk in but also add a touch of sophistication and style to even a simple pair of jeans. Then for my pants, I wore the same Hudson Nico Mid Rise Skinnies. Then on top I wore a red tank top and a black knit Armani jacket. I love this jacket because although it is knit, it has the same cut as a leather jacket and the leather detailing on the sides gives it a nice edgyness. Then I wore the same J Crew necklace and Loeffler Randall bag. It really is amazing what a few simple switches of shoes and shirts can do to change a look! I love how in this look, the red tank top really gives a nice pop of color and ties in with the necklace. Also, the bold shoes and knit jacket add a nice chic style to it. All in all, most definitely something I am going to be wearing again!!

You know those cold, wet and frigid winter days when you just don't want to get out of bed? Well today was one of those days. However, I resisted from the temptation of just rolling out of bed and wearing my pajamas, which I have done multiple times before. Instead, I wore as close to my pajamas as I could. For shoes, I wore my classic L. L. Bean boots with a pair of fuzzy socks to keep my feet warm and cozy. Then I threw on a pair of Lu Lu Lemon black leggings, the next best thing to sweat pants. Now for my top I wore a long white, crew neck sweater from Free People. This sweater is great to wear with leggings because it is a little bit longer and has small small slits on the sides which allows for your back side to be covered and also for the sweater to not bunch at the hips. Over that I threw on my thick fur vest from C Wonder. I love love love this vest for any type of outfit from jeans to a dress, it can go with almost everything! I am a huge fan of fur vests in the winter as they are warm but also add a stylish and chic essence to any outfit. This fur vest in particular is so cozy and snuggly that it feels like you are wrapped up in a blanket! One nice addition to this vest is that when you zipper it all the way you can fold over the collar, which not only looks super chic but also protects you from the freezing cold when walking from class to class. For my coat, I wore the classic hunter green Barbour jacket. I loved how the jacket looked under the collar of the fur vest! I think it gave the Barbour a more new and updated look, not to mention it kept me very warm!

Happy Wednesday :)
