Semi Formal Attire

by Sophie Langlois

At some point in a girls life she will be faced with the hard decision of what to wear to a special event. Whether its semi, prom, a formal, or a special gala the decision of what dress to wear is always a hard one. I have been to many of these events before and you would be amazed at all the types of dresses I have seen; from skin tight body cons and sky high heels to high low dresses and flats. At the end of the day, it really is what ever makes you feel happiest and prettiest. However, one thing I will say from past experience, wear something that when you look back on it you will think about how much you loved your dress not "what was I thinking?!" Now, as the first semi of my season rolled around, I knew I wanted to wear something colorful, something that would stand out. I always find that, especially in the winter time, girls tend to lean more towards dark colored dresses like blacks and browns, which is fine if thats what you like. But i really think that especially in the winter time a pop of color is much needed, even if you just wore a simple black dress with a colorful statement necklace.

For my first semi of the year, I wore a red lace Free People dress with a pair of nude heels and some simple gold jewelry. I wanted to keep the dress as the main piece of the outfit so I kept everything else pretty simple. I love this dress because of its color and cut. It has a low deep V in the front and the back and then flounces out like a traditional skirt dress. The deep V is very flattering and adds a glam look to it and the flounceyness of the skirt is nice because it keeps it fun and playful. This dress was super comfortable and not something I had to worry about during the night. For my jewelry, I knew I wanted to wear something simple and a little bit longer so that it would tie in with the deep V of the dress. I wore this gorgeous horse shoe gold necklace with it and loved it! It was so pretty and simple with such a bold colored dress that it all really went well together. I also threw on a gold Flash Tat to add a little sparkle and just to add some fun to the look! Lastly, I wore a pair of nude pumps to tie in with the gold necklace and give myself a little bit of height for the night!
